ohlins steering damper

Post by Ironzie » Thu Dec 18, 2014 7:48 pm

had a beautiful ohlins damper laying in ironzies garage so i thought i would fit it to my nuda ,the handlebar clamps are the KTM powerparts clamps think made by xtrig,i think they look very bling together

this job wasn't exactly a simple DIY effort and took quite a bit of time to measure, build and finish off but i though i would share

First i had to make a plate of alloy for the damper to screw to via a large bolt that runs through the centre of it then i made a bracket that bolts to the ignition barrel and locates to the damper arm underneath the damper body

Really I just fitted the damper on the nuda cos it was sitting gathering dust in my garage but what it does is to make a bike feel more planted , you know how a big heavy bike feels planted on the road and a light bike eg single supermoto feels lively well a damper makes a light bike feel more planted without that weight (my opinion), it wont stop head shake just calm it , I dont think a nuda really needs one but I did notice mine (std) got lively rapidly at 80mph + on bumpy undulating roads ,think that was more a suspention issue but I will report back how it feels with the damper

crappy weather here so not sure when I will get to test

its a really trick piece of kit , not only can you adjust the damping force but you can adjust the force from outside to centre so you could have heavy damping from centre out and light or no damping on the return to centre

Wow! super envious....looks amazing...but over my head...I am still trying to get to grips with compression, rebound and preload....Next week I swap out my 900 forks for brand new 900R forks (with Wilbers progressive springs). I always love your work mate...just I DONT have any of those skills or knowledge!
