20000km exploring Norway

Post by SknarTiT » Wed Aug 27, 2014 8:23 pm

Since mid April I've done about 20000km of riding through Norway, almost no local rides just trips to other parts of the country.
I've experienced glaciers, beautiful fjords, breathtaking roads up the mountains, fantastic ferry crossings, record breaking heat and snowstorms.

So far I've managed to get about 8 hours of footage up on youtube and here are some of my favorites!

Not big on taking pictures, but a got a few worth showing:

WOW :o
I hereby swear to almighty Goddess Nuda that I will ride her as hard as I can and have all things needed to keep her running in peak form taking me to new heights everyday. Amen.

Fantastic, that makes me want to ride there on my next tour. What is the best time of year for a visit?

AMAZING!, but I can't watch videos of people riding with no gloves. It makes me feel ill.

This image is from last week of June, all the snow was gone by mid July.
I'd say July and start of August is the best time to visit.
As you can see from the videos, there is really not that much traffic even in the middle of the tourist season.

Wow! I'm so jealous! Looks like some of the best roads are located in Norway. :D

I've done 4 trips to Norway and I like the scenery a lot, but the weather is always a gamble. Sometimes (ie. more often than not) it might rain continuously for week in the coastal regions (where all the best roads/fjords are). Norway also has very strict rules against speeding and doing 100 km/h on a 80 road will land you a 600 euro speeding ticket  Not to mention that Norway is ridiculously expensive, on my last trip I remember paying 40 euros for a pizza and 10 euros for a beer. But all in all, I still like the country and will surely be doing more trips over there.

This summer has been incredible in Norway, we had 85+ new heat records, I visited 8+ different city's when they hit a new record and lord it was hot!
On several trips I had to drop my jacket and ride in my tshirt just to get anywhere...
July was almost all sun and no rain, to bad the norm is far from it, if you ride in Norway, you better plan for rain!
